Costa Rica

After 17 hours of airline travel with the accompanied delays, power outages, airport traffic issues and security harassment that come free with every journey you´d think I´d be pretty cranky, but I´m in Costa Rica now, and it´s fabulous. I´m so glad to be here!
The weather is wonderful, warm and humid with super heavy afternoon deluges (I love hard rain, it´s the whimpy Australian drizzle that was annoying). And the poeple are beautiful, on the inside as well as the outside.

The 15 X-ray scans of my camera seems to have funked the memory card, so I transfered the files to CD´s and reformatted it. It works fine now but I have no pictures of the local greenery. That will come soon.

I stayed in a Hotel in San Jose last night and this mornings free breakfast was the best food I´d ever had. Red Beans with Rice, and Pancakes with fruit and honey. The honey was like having an orchestra playing in my mouth. It was so flaverful I couldn´t stop eating it. And the fruit was by far the must delicious pinapple and papaya I´ve ever had.

But San Jose was loud and busy, so I took a 5 hour bus for $4 down south. I now plan on wandering north for a few weeks until I meet my relatives in Nicaragua. My freind Mel provided me with a detailed list of must-see things while I´m here, so I expect to be really busy having fun.

I leave you with a poem that should have appeared in the last Australia entry (Oh by the way they also say "Ciggy" instead of cigarette)

Unmoved
On a plastic stool in the daily shove,
a cellist plays his strings to rise above the roaring
and banging
of busses and trucks.
And he becomes his song
And he spreads outward like the heat
from an opened oven
And he grows to fill the city
And he stops the wind.
Hurried strangers drop coins into his hat,
but never hear a thing.

i like the poem, did you write it? yah! i'm happy you made it there in one piece...travelling in central/south american countries is always an adventure--patience and a good sense of humor usually get you through it pretty well. ;) yup i did give you quite the list so i hope you have tons of fun!!!

The poem about the cellist who stopped the wind with his music is awesome. I am so envious of your travels in Costa Rica and I hope I can see it someday and taste some of that fresh fruit and honey. You will have such a good time. Keep telling us everything!
